WFS Fees 2026: Walmart's Answer to Amazon FBA

The three fee layers

WFS mirrors Amazon FBA's structure closely: ship inventory to Walmart's fulfillment centers, and Walmart handles picking, packing, shipping, customer service, and returns. In exchange, you pay:

• Fulfillment fee: based on your item's weight and dimensions. Confirmed anchor points from Walmart's own pricing examples: $3.45 for items under 1 lb, $4.95 at 2 lb, roughly $6.95 around 6 lb, climbing to $14.55+ in the mid-teens and beyond for heavier items.
• Monthly storage fee: $0.75 per cubic foot from January through September, rising to roughly $1.50 per cubic foot during the October–December peak season.
• Referral fee: the same category-based commission (6–20%, most categories 15%) that applies to every Walmart Marketplace sale, whether self-fulfilled or WFS-fulfilled.

Additional surcharges apply for apparel and hazardous materials (roughly $0.50 per unit each), and big-and-bulky items (over 150 lb or oversized dimensions) are priced individually — generally a $155 base plus $0.80 per pound over 90 lb.

Dimensional weight can surprise you

Like Amazon FBA, WFS doesn't just charge based on your item's actual weight. For items between 1 and 150 lbs, Walmart uses whichever is greater: the actual unit weight, or the dimensional weight (length × width × height ÷ 139). A lightweight but bulky item — a large decorative pillow, for instance — can get charged at a much higher weight tier than its scale weight suggests, simply because of its box size. Measure your packaged dimensions before assuming your fulfillment fee based on actual weight alone.

The new long-term storage fee

As of June 30, 2026, inventory that sits in a Walmart fulfillment center for more than 450 days is hit with a long-term storage surcharge of $7.50 per cubic foot per month — on top of the regular monthly rate. This is a recent policy change, so if you've been selling on WFS for a while, it's worth checking your inventory age report now rather than discovering the surcharge on next month's statement.

Walmart's own first-party data claims WFS fulfillment averages roughly 15% cheaper than competing services — actual savings depend on your item's specific weight, dimensions, and category. Compare both calculators directly for your exact numbers.

The practical differences: no monthly seller subscription on Walmart, generally lower standard-season storage costs, and both platforms offer a fast-shipping badge that meaningfully boosts conversion. WFS is Walmart-centric — inventory is primarily used to fulfill Walmart.com orders, though Walmart Multichannel Solutions now allows some cross-channel fulfillment, similar to Amazon's Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF).

Common mistakes sellers make with WFS

• Estimating fulfillment fees from actual weight alone. Bulky, lightweight items can be billed at a much higher dimensional-weight tier — always measure packaged dimensions before pricing.
• Forgetting the referral fee applies regardless of fulfillment method. WFS fulfillment fees are additive to the standard Walmart referral fee, not a replacement for it.
• Not accounting for peak-season storage increases. Storage roughly doubles October–December — plan inventory levels accordingly if you're carrying slow-moving stock into Q4.
• Letting inventory age past 450 days. The new long-term storage surcharge is a real, recently-added cost — run age reports regularly.
