Sale amount eBay net Mercari net Difference
$100.00 $86.00 $90.00 Mercari nets $4.00 more
$500.00 $431.60 $450.00 Mercari nets $18.40 more
$1000.00 $863.60 $900.00 Mercari nets $36.40 more

Mercari's flat 10% comes out lower than eBay's ~13.6% plus per-order fee at almost every price point — the gap is a few percentage points in Mercari's favor either way. eBay's advantage isn't a lower fee, it's reach: a far larger buyer base, an auction format for scarce or collectible items, and support for categories Mercari doesn't specialize in. Run your actual price through both calculators before deciding where to list.

eBay

How eBay fees work

eBay charges a final value fee based on the total sale amount, including shipping. The rate depends on your category and whether you have a Store subscription. A separate per-order fee and optional promoted-listing fee can also apply.

Final value fee includes payment processing. Per-order fee is $0.30 for orders ≤$10, $0.40 above (a few categories are exempt — see category note). Accounts rated 'Below Standard' pay an additional 6% on the final value fee; a 'Very High' item-not-as-described rate in a category adds another 5% in that category — neither is modeled here, check your Seller Hub status.

FAQ

Common questions

Is eBay or Mercari cheaper?

Mercari, on most sales. Mercari charges a flat 10% selling fee with no separate payment processing charge (removed in January 2025). eBay charges roughly 13.6% (12.7% with a Store subscription) plus a small $0.30–$0.40 per-order fee, which puts it a few percentage points above Mercari at almost any price point.

Does Mercari really have no processing fee?

Correct, as of January 6, 2025 — Mercari folded what used to be a separate 2.9% + $0.50 payment-processing charge into its selling fee and eliminated it as a standalone line, simplifying the math to one flat 10%.

Why would anyone choose eBay if Mercari is cheaper?

eBay has a vastly larger buyer base, works for essentially any category (electronics, collectibles, parts, vintage — not just general resale), and its auction format and search reach can move harder-to-sell or higher-value items that Mercari's browse-driven, fixed-price audience may not find as easily. Fee isn't the only factor — reach and category fit matter too.

Do both platforms charge fees on shipping?

Yes — eBay's final value fee applies to the total the buyer pays including shipping, and Mercari's 10% fee likewise applies to the item price plus any shipping you charge. Neither platform lets you dodge the fee by pricing shipping separately.
