How Mercari fees are calculated

SELLING FEE

Flat 10% on item price + buyer-paid shipping. Applied only when the item sells — no upfront listing cost.

FEES ON SHIPPING

If the buyer pays shipping, that amount is added to the fee base. On a $50 item with $8 shipping, the fee is 10% of $58 = $5.80.

NO PROCESSING FEE

Mercari removed the 2.9% + $0.50 seller payment-processing charge in January 2025. The 10% is the only fee sellers pay.

FREE SHIPPING TRADE-OFF

Offer free shipping and Mercari fees drop (no shipping in the base), but your label cost comes out of your pocket. The calculator models both scenarios.

How Mercari fees work in 2026

Mercari's current fee structure — effective from January 2025 and unchanged through 2026 — is the simplest of any major US resale marketplace. Sellers pay a single fee: 10% of the amount the buyer pays, which includes the item price and any shipping the buyer pays separately. There are no listing fees, no monthly subscriptions, no per-order surcharges, and no seller-side payment-processing charges — the 2.9% + $0.50 processing fee sellers paid under the previous structure was fully removed in the January 2025 restructure.

The most important nuance sellers miss: the 10% applies to the total transaction amount, not just the item price. List a jacket for $60 with $8 buyer-paid shipping and Mercari's fee is 10% of $68 — $6.80, not $6.00.
